A magnificent Louis Rigal drawing which now resides at Wynn, is an impressive prospective drawing which was initially designed for the "Lady's Entrance" of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. The Waldorf-Astoria is renowned as one of the greatest Art Deco institutions, and thus was chosen as the initial setting for Rigal's work.
This graphite on paper drawing which features statuesque women in classical poses was later carved in bas relief. What was particularly extraordinary about Rigal, who lived from 1889 to 1955, was that he was not only a great sculptor, but he was also an excellent draftsman.
